Patients are increasingly opting for care abroad. Healthcare professionals also work outside their country of nationality more often. Reasons for this include advanced technology, shorter waiting lists and lower costs. 

• Empowered patients with sufficient financial resources are looking for advanced treatments. If not available in their own country, they often go abroad to find what they are looking for.
• There are countries, for example in Asia, that see medical tourism as an financial opportunity, especially for ‘nice to have’ interventions.
