Innovative 3D scanner makes body size 3D scan
We have all seen it before: a science fiction film in which someone controlled an avatar in a virtual world. This fictitious future seems to be getting closer and closer as developments in the field of 3D scanning follow each other in rapid succession. Recently a 3D scanner has even been developed with which a body size 3D scan can be made.
3D scanning more and more common in the future
The applications of 3D scanners therefore promise a take off. For example, 3D scanning allows people to create 3D avatars to shop and try on clothes online. In America, large retail chains are expected to install special scanning booths in their stores in the near future.
Most 3D scanners are currently still large round cages, equipped with dozens of cameras or complete rotating camera systems. Meanwhile, a number of companies are trying to change this by designing a 3D scanner that is not only smaller, but also somewhat easier to install.
New 3D scanner scans body in just five minutes
The well-known 3D printing company 3D MakerJet seems to have made a successful attempt by now. The Florida-based company recently presented a compact, but body sized, 3D scanner in a showroom in Orlando. Visitors were shown how the machine works and what the possibilities are.
Body size 3D scanner enables fast 3D scan
The MakerJet Pro full-body scanner, as the device is called, is designed to make the user experience of 3D scanning a lot easier. The 3D scanner is just over 180 cm high and contains a special rotating platform on which users have to stand. This rotates slowly in order for full 3D scan of the body to be made.
The total process of 3D scanning, including the software-based rendering afterwards, only takes five minutes. Not only people can have a 3D scan of their body made, but also various objects can be placed in the 3D scanner. In this way it is possible to quickly and easily create an exact replica of even the most large objects.
3D scan of large objects also business interesting
3D MakerJet believes that the 3D scanner is not only interesting for the consumer market, but can also be suitable for a variety of business or industrial applications. For example, larger parts can be quickly scanned in 3D, without the need for time-consuming measurements or several small 3D scanners.
In addition to this innovative 3D scanner, 3D MakerJet sells a large product line of 3D printers, which include 3D printer that can print with metal.
3D body scan in healthcare
The 3D scanner is easy to operate, which allows health care assistants to take scans of the body with relative ease. On the basis of these scans, plastic surgeons and other physicians can decide whether certain procedures, such as breast augmentation or breast reductions, are possible without meeting the patient themselves. As a latest development, it is also possible to make a scan of the musculoskeletal system. MRI/Röntgen-like images are made of e.g. knee and hips.
Clients appreciate this very much (3), because the threshold is much lower and they are often much more likely to see a GP than a specialist. General practitioner assistants like to add this service to their work (3) and employees of clinics only receive good referrals. They are also very positive (3).
