Skin scan
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers. Many forms are treatable if discovered early. It is therefore important to keep a close eye on your skin and to regularly examine it (or have it examined).
Modern techniques make it possible to control your skin much more often than before. With the help of artificial intelligence and better and better cameras you can do this yourself, or have it done by an assistant of the family doctor. There are even studies that claim that diagnosis by artificial intelligence is better than that of dermatologists.
General Practices
At a number of GP practices, the assistant can take shots with a good camera. The images are initially analysed by the computer and compared with previous images of the skin. If there is reason to do so, the GP first looks at the spots and refers to the dermatologist if necessary.
Because this way of working is very accessible, patients find it very pleasant (3). For the general practitioner’s assistants it’s a nice extension of their tasks (2) and the dermatologists can spend their time on people who really have something going on. Of course dermatologists appreciate this (2).
Check your skin with your smartphone
One step further is to check your skin yourself with an app. The SkinVision and MiiSkin companies offer an app that allows you to control your skin with your smartphone.
All old recordings are saved and used for analysis. You’ll be referred to a dermatologist if there’s reason to.
