02. Live longer, be sick longer, take more medication

Many diseases are no longer (directly) fatal. As a result, the number of chronically ill people increases and more people have multiple disorders at the same time (multi-morbidity). The demand for care increases and becomes more complex with more medication.

  • There will be more chronic diseases and more age-related illnesses.
  • Many chronic conditions are the result of an unhealthy lifestyle, with being overweight as an example of this.
  • There is an increase in demand and a more complex demand.
  • More tailor-made care and more attention to the quality of life is needed.
  • An increased use of medication ensures more interaction between medication and side effects and a need for better exchange of data between doctors and practitioners.
